How to Cycle the Ciclovia del Garda
A complete guide to riding Italy's most spectacular suspended cycle path — plus the best places to eat and drink in Limone sul Garda, from a legendary focaccia to the finest lemon gelato on the lake.
The Most Beautiful Cycle Path in Italy
There are cycle paths, and then there is the Ciclovia del Garda. Suspended above the crystalline waters of Lake Garda, anchored into ancient limestone cliffs, this engineering marvel near Limone sul Garda has become one of the most photographed and celebrated cycling destinations in the world.
The path opened in stages between 2018 and 2022, and the reaction was immediate: travel media from across Europe and beyond declared it one of the most beautiful cycle routes on Earth. On a clear morning, with the lake glittering below and the mountains of Trentino rising on the far shore, it is difficult to disagree.
This guide covers everything you need to know to make the most of your ride — from renting the right bike to the best spots to stop for food and drink before or after your cycle. Limone sul Garda is a small town, but it punches well above its weight when it comes to quality food and local flavours.

The Route: What to Expect
The Ciclovia del Garda section near Limone sul Garda covers approximately 10 km round trip. You start in the town centre, ride northward along the western shore, and then the path transitions onto the suspended walkway — the section that has made this route world-famous.
The suspended section is flat and wide, making it accessible for all fitness levels. The views are continuous and extraordinary: the lake stretches south toward Sirmione, and the limestone cliffs rise dramatically to the west. Several platforms along the route offer natural stopping points for photographs.
One important note: while the suspended section itself is flat, the access roads from Limone sul Garda involve some uphill stretches. The town is built into a steep hillside, and getting to the cycle path entrance requires climbing. This is why we strongly recommend an e-bike — it transforms a potentially tiring climb into an effortless glide, leaving you with energy to enjoy the views.
"On a clear morning, with the lake glittering below and the mountains of Trentino rising on the far shore, it is difficult to find a more beautiful place to be on a bicycle."
Why an E-Bike Makes All the Difference

Limone sul Garda is a mountain town. The streets are steep, the terrain is dramatic, and the approach to the Ciclovia del Garda involves real climbing. On a standard bike, this can be exhausting — especially in the summer heat. On a KTM e-bike from Limone Bike Rental, it is a pleasure.
Our fleet includes the KTM Macina Team 792 (our top-of-the-range e-MTB), the KTM Gran Macina 620 (e-trekking, ideal for the Ciclovia), and the Montana e-city bike for a more relaxed ride. All bikes come with helmet, lock, and lights. Our two shops on Via IV Novembre are just a few minutes' walk from the cycle path entrance — and we have free parking right next to the shop.

Where to Eat and Drink in Limone sul Garda
After your ride — or before, if you want to fuel up first — Limone sul Garda has some genuinely excellent local spots. Here are our personal recommendations, tried and tested by the Limone Bike Rental team.
Dal Piasarot
Focacceria · Sandwiches📍 Via Porto, 32 — near the harbour
The best focaccia in Limone, full stop. Dal Piasarot is an artisanal focacceria just steps from the historic harbour, serving stuffed focaccias and sandwiches made with top-quality local ingredients. The queue moves fast, the prices are honest, and the result is outstanding.
House of Lemonade & Spritz
Drinks · Lemon Specialities📍 Near the historic harbour, Limone sul Garda
Limone sul Garda is famous for its lemons — the town's name literally means 'lemon' — and this charming kiosk near the harbour is the best place to taste them. The fresh lemonade is made with Garda lemons and is genuinely refreshing. The spritz selection is also excellent.
Là Banca — Delizia al Limone
Gelato · Lemon Specialities📍 Via Comboni, 22 — Limone sul Garda
The original lemon gelato of Limone sul Garda, served in a real hollowed-out lemon. Delizia al Limone at Là Banca is an institution — the gelato is made with Garda lemons and has a creamy, intensely flavoured texture that is unlike anything you will find elsewhere. A must.
Hostaria al Buongusto
Restaurant · Italian Cuisine📍 Limone sul Garda (near the castle area)
One of the most beloved restaurants in Limone sul Garda, consistently rated among the top dining experiences on the lake. Hostaria al Buongusto serves traditional Italian cuisine with a focus on lake fish, fresh pasta, and seasonal ingredients. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, and the service is attentive.
Dal Bigaröla
Restaurant · Pizza · Grill📍 Limone sul Garda — lakeview location
A lakeview restaurant combining rustic Italian charm with a wide menu of pizza, grilled meats, seafood, and pasta. Dal Bigaröla is a local favourite for its relaxed atmosphere and generous portions. The terrace with lake views is one of the best spots to end a cycling day.
Limone sul Garda is a small town, but these five spots represent the very best of what it has to offer. Whether you are fuelling up before a ride or celebrating after, you will eat and drink very well here.

Practical Tips for Your Ride
Best time to ride
Early morning (7:00–10:00) for the best light, fewest crowds, and coolest temperatures. In summer, avoid midday — temperatures can exceed 35°C.
Bring water
There are no water fountains on the suspended section. Carry at least 500ml per person, more in summer. You can refill at the town centre before setting off.
Best photo spot
The wide platform approximately halfway along the suspended section — the path widens and you can safely stop for panoramic shots of the lake and mountains.
Parking
Free parking is available next to Limone Bike Rental on Via IV Novembre. This is the most convenient starting point for the Ciclovia.
Book in advance
In peak season (June–August), bikes sell out fast. Book via WhatsApp at least one day in advance to guarantee your preferred model.
